Artificial grass Installation Instructions

Installation of garden turf

How to install a synthetic turf step by step

The Deshe Kavua installation process on the ground has five stages:

First Stage – Preparation of the area

Spraying – in cases where there is sod or weeds on the installation area, you must spray the soil using herbicides and then wait for 7 to 10 days.

Area Stripping – in a standard installation of artificial lawn a layer of sesame gravel must be spread at a height of 5 cm on average. Sometimes before spreading the gravel the ground will have to be stripped, which actually means removing excess soil. The purpose of stripping the ground is to level the height of the artificial lawn with that of the surface it borders on (such as flooring, deck, parquet, marble, etc.).

The extent of ground stripped changes in accordance with the type of artificial lawn installed on the premises and the garden’s landscape. Make sure the ground is completely dry before the infrastructure is laid down.

Area Cleanup – the installation area must be thoroughly cleaned of disturbing elements such as rocks, weeds, roots, etc.

Area Bordering – the installation area must be bordered using lawn borders so that there is no spilling over to the sides of the gravel.

Second Stage – Infrastructure Preparation

Sesame gravel bed spreading and compacting – spread a layer of sesame gravel (thin gravel) 5 cm thick on the installation surface. Create a 1% slant to the garden’s external part towards the drain points. Before compacting, wet the gravel and then level and compact it using a compacting device. The maximum height of the compacted surface should be up to one centimeter under the final height (zero height). Attention – zero height is the height of the base sheet and not fiber height.

Geo-technical Sheet – spread the geo-technical sheet on the compacted gravel. The geo-technical sheet is an airy water permeable sheet, which is designed to provide the artificial lawn with an additional protective layer to prevent the growth of weeds.

Third Stage – Laying the Turfs

Laying the Artificial Lawn – spread the artificial turfs with the fibers facing the same direction all along the surface. It is important to do this so as to ensure the uniformity of their appearance. It is recommended to design the spread so that the number of connections will be as little as possible.

The artificial lawn turfs are produced using two width sizes: 2 meters and 4 meters, and this so that they may be used in the manner most suitable to surface conditions.

Fourth Stage – Match and Glue

Match – this stage regards surfaces where there is more than one turf. Once the turfs are spread on the surface, they must be prepared before glued. Therefore make sure the turfs overlap on the connecting strap. It is important to avoid situations where the artificial turfs overlap one another or cases where the gaps are too big.

Glue – connect the artificial lawn turfs as follows: fold sheet margins and spread the PVC glue straps along the area you wish to connect. Fix the PVC sheet to the ground using a number of spikes and spread a thin layer of designated green glue on it using a spatula.

Once glued compact both sides of the artificial turfs and gently step on the glued turf. The glue will dry within 20 minutes on average. Do not wet the turfs in the first few hours after their installation.

Stage Five – Fixing the Turfs

Fixing the turf to the ground – fixing artificial turfs is done by using galvanized spikes which do not rust when coming in contact with water. Artificial turfs are fixed to the ground on the area surrounding it using these spikes at a distance of 10 – 15 cm between one spike to the other.

Silica Sand Infill – if the artificial turfs you have purchased necessitate sand infill, spread silica sand infill on the artificial turf fibers and brush them until the sand is absorbed in the ground. The Deshe Kavua artificial lawn models do not require silica sand infill, thus saving long term handling and maintenance costs.

Brushing – artificial turf fibers are brushed counter fiber direction. When professionally installed an electric brush is used but a stiff nylon bristled broom or tough brush will do the job.

♥ Make sure to use only standard installation devices. Installation devices which are not designed for installing artificial turfs may damage product quality as well as installation quality.
